Grootvadersbosch is `n geskiedkundige plaas, trouens ouer as Swellendam self. Reeds op 26 Augustus 1724 is Grootvadersbosch aan landbouer Roelof Olofsz toegestaan „om te gaan leggen en weijden onder de Grootvadersbosch"..... Abraham Schietekat het reeds hier skool gegee in 1744, terwyl die ou heemrade nog gesoek het na `n geskikte plek om die Drosdy te bou.

Koloniesplaas Renosterveld Reserve

Fleckvieh Guestfarm is excited to be part of Renosterveld conservation through the Kolonies Trust. Here are 3 generations father son and grandson, holding the Kolonies Reserve sighn. From left to right: Matthys Johannes Swart (the 5th), Matthys J. Swart snr (the 3rd) and Matthys J. Swart (the 4th). Kolonies Trust sighned conservation easements end of 2020 with two other farmers.

The folowing artickle apeared on the website of the OVERBERG RENOSTERVELD CONSERVATION TRUST.

"Three farmers have signed conservation easements on four properties. That means that through title deed restrictions, their natural veld is protected forever.
They are:
Thys Swart (Koloniesplaas and Kleindam Conservation Easement)
Neethling Dippenaar (Diptka Conservation Easement)
And Rossouw Swart (Koesani and Kleindam Conservation Easement)
These landowners have joined our list of conservation champions. They’re now protecting Critically Endangered Eastern Rûens Shale Renosterveld and Rûens Silcrete Renosterveld, as well as a rarely encountered Lowland wetland ecosystem on their properties...." (Click on the picture below for more.)
